Oyster Jokes and Enjoying Oysters

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Who doesn’t love a good oyster joke, especially when I came up with it myself!

Two Gulf oysters walk into a bar and the first oyster sees a fishermen sitting across in a booth ready to eat the first sea food that walks through that door. He looks at the other oyster and says, “hey guess what I am?”

The other Gulf oysters replies, “I don’t know, what?”

“I’m an Oyster slider sliding out of this place!”

But on a more serious note, who doesn’t like to eat oysters? I know everyone I know loves them, but it can really be hard to figure out how to make them properly, and since they can be dangerous if cooked improperly, its important to do your research. I just found a really neat and informative website called Beoysteraware.com. They have everything from recipes to information about the risks posed to people with certain health conditions.

Before you go our and enjoy oysters, make sure you know your facts.

Fridge Magnets Saved My Business

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

I recently started a computer service business. I put an ad in the newspaper, and people would call me out to their house to fix whatever problem they had. After the ad finished my customers seemed to drop of the map, and I couldn’t figure out why.

One day one of my friends said that he wanted me to fix one of his problems, but he couldn’t find my phone number. I didn’t have the ad in the paper anymore and he couldn’t look there. Then it hit me, people liked my service, they just didn’t have an easy way to have my number on call.

I decided that I would give all my clients a magnet with my phone number so it could be there right on their fridge. I went to Vista Print and checked out their large selection of custom save the date magnets. The offer several different types, including business card magnets, perfect for what I was looking for. I even used the coupon code “Blog25FreeMag” and got 25 free magnets!

They printed them up and had them to me fast, for a lot cheaper than my local print shop! Plus, they make is easy to customize your magnet, all online! Now no one forgets my number, and business is booming!

The Cave Singers “Dancing On Our Graves” Music Video = Foot Stompin’ Good ol’ Time

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

They claim be folk music noobs, the band knowing little about the genre, the guitarist not knowing how to play the guitar until recently, and their resume looking more like a punk rocker than anyone with any down home roots. Surprisingly, out of this mesh composed of Pete Quirk singing, Derek Fudesco from the Murder City Devils playing bass, and Marty Lund on drums comes a simple yet catchy folk music that makes you feel at home. My Identity was Stolen!

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

It has finally happened to me. I have always been very trusting of people, and didn’t take any precaution with my personal information. I had heard many reports on television but I didn’t think it would ever happen to me.

About five days ago I got my credit report and noticed 3 credit cards I didn’t even sign up for. Who ever it was that stole my identity spent over $3000! I was shocked!

So, to protect myself from now on I signed up for a service called Life Lock. It is only $10 and they protect me, and they have specialist’s standing by if anything happens. If I lose my wallet, I give them a call and they take care of everything. They are on top of my personal information, and will stop anything from happening before it starts.

With Life Lock I don’t have to worry anymore. I’m glad its all over, and I’m glad I can rest assured that it won’t happen again.

Letter From My Parents Who Don’t Understand the Concept of Fiction

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Dear Son,

It’s been a long time since we’ve written. We still don’t have a phone, so that’s why we haven’t called. As soon as I convince your father that the telephone has in fact been invented, you will be the first person I call. Please include your telephone address in your response. How are things going? I hope you are doing well. Your sister tells me that you are a writer now. How exciting! She mailed me some magazines with your articles in them. I must admit that your father and I were a bit concerned when we read about your latest invention son. “Old People Huts” designed to “house elderly family members when they become very ill or overly annoying” just seems a bit wrong Mark. After reading that, your father told me to unplug the phone as he was expecting the media to call and ask questions about you. I had to remind him that we don’t have a telephone. (more…)

For the first time the founder spoke on Russian TV about the whole thing. (more…)

Stew Celebration

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Creating a stew takes a lot of time and hard work. Every time you make a stew, a celebration is required to give tribute to the love, dedication, and bloody sweat tears that went into making something that tastes oh so good.

How else can CricketSoda give tribute other than a video! Enjoy!

I See a Lunar Eclipse in your Future

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

On February 20th get out your night grilling tongs and pull up a chair for a rare natural show of epic proportions (literally). The earth will steal all the moons sunlight, and will cast a shadow across the surface of the moon. While this is more common than a solar eclipse, it is still a spectacle to see and celebrate.

The eclipse will begin at around 7:40p.m. with a partial eclipse. Slowly the shadow of the earth will engulf the moon until around 9:25p.m. when the full eclipse will occur, and the moon will start slowly coming out of the shadow.

So get off the tube and enjoy something amazing for a change!

Bonnaroo Announces Lame 2008 Line Up

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Once upon a time we were ecstatic to have our Bonaroo tickets in our hands. So excited that I tacked my ticket up on the wall where I could see it from bed, even though it was a dangerous idea, letting it float out in the world of paper hungry dogs and money hungry fingers. Our favorite band Radiohead would be headlining, along with Beck, My Morning Jacket, and Damian Marley. When it finally happened it was everything we could ever want in a music festival. (more…)

Almost Didn’t Make it to Canada!

Friday, February 8th, 2008

This year vacations looked out of the question. We had looked into taking a relaxing trip to Canada for a week or so, but with flights being so expensive it looked far out of reach of our budget. I wanted so bad to see Toronto and Niagara Falls, things I have always wanted to see but never have. I went to Vancouver once and it was like a magical wonderland, with clean streets and amazingly nice people.

Little did I know my grandfather had taken care of everything. He booked flights to Canada online and had tickets printed out and waiting for me once I got home from work. I have already decided we would just go to the lake and pretend to be on vacation, but it was really coming together. Canada here I come!

Disclosure: This post is paid advertisement brought to you by Dialaflight.com flights to Canada.

The Darwin Awards

Friday, February 8th, 2008

darwin.jpgRating : 5.1 out of 10

Sometimes movies try to take an idea way to far, creating a Hollywood love story out of a cult Internet following, and not giving us enough of what we came for, which was strange deaths. We read The Darwin Awards to laugh at some of the darkest stories we can laugh at, and the movie failed to give us enough. (more…)

Creating a Custom Search Button for your Wordpress Theme

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Your custom Wordpress theme can really be drug down by the lame gray default search button. Lucky for us this is easy to change using good old fashion CSS and a nice button image. Wordpress makes it even easier, as we only have to edit two files (maybe just one) to change our search button on the entire site. (more…)

Welcome to Levi’s World of Wordpress

Monday, February 4th, 2008

wordpressicon-hanttula3.jpgSo for a long time I avoided writing about Wordpress even though I was using it so much because billions of other people were writing about the same thing. Recently though I have realized that most people want to use Wordpress for its most basic purpose, which is to blog, and hopefully by blogging on an actual domain name they will gain some credibility.
