Hockey

It’s A Canadian Game or Is It?

Well, it used to be a Canadian game, but is it still? There was a time when the word hockey was synonymous with Canada, but with this past season of no hockey and now the summer is here and thoughts are leaning more toward baseball and vacations, hockey is now at the back of everyone’s mind. Also now, it is seemingly primarily a game of the US. Canada has 5 NHL hockey teams, how many does the US have? I have lost count.

Will the players association and the owners be able to cross that great gulf enough to meet in the middle and solve this? The longer they wait, the further apart it seems they are. It seems that hockey players are in this for the cash grab and do not care about the fans and possibly even the owners. When will this end? Come on guys, get real. Get off your collective cash cows and get back to the game!

It is June and thoughts this time of year have turned to other things, but before we know it, the fall will be here and where will hockey be? Will it be back on with the players ready to play or will hockey be a distant memory? Is hockey over as we knew it? The year 2005 was the first year since 1919 that the Stanley Cup was not awarded. The flu pandemic of 1919 caused the cancellation of the cup that year, so not even world wars managed to stop the presentation of the cup. This year, it was the strike. What a pathetic reason! These guys are letting greed get in the way of the game and are forgetting about the fans. This is the time of year that the hockey players are signing contracts in order to get ready for the next season of play. It has been said that the two sides are talking, but what about? That is the question!
