How My Bank Won

by: Levi Blackman

I am beginning to really hate the way banks are set up. Banks have to make money to survive, and so the original system set up was that banks would give out loans with the money that people deposit. They would charge interest and make money on the loan repayments. In our modern economy, banks have to compete for loans, lowering interest rates and not making as much money. To make up for this they pass the cost on to me, the poor college student doing my best to survive.

The $33.00 processing fee the bank charges me every time I create a negative balance is something I struggle to overcome what seems like every day of my life. I have had these fees eat my entire paycheck. An entire week of hard work went entirely to the bank. I hope the bank has better plans for the money than I did. I just wanted to get something to eat and pay my electric bill.

It happened something like the way this woman from http://www.bankfees.info said in her column about unfair banking fees. http://www.bankfees.info/Example.htm

My bank is 1st Convenience Bank, and they have the same type of policies as described by the bank fees info website.

So here I am, broke and having the bank breathing down my throat because I owe them a couple hundred dollars. I have a few quarters in my pocket, and every now and then I think about going up to the corner store and getting something to drink. Then I think about how important those quarters can be sometimes and I go back to work, hoping that one day my class, my situation, and my thirst will change, and I will be a more noble man in our society.

I hoped that I could just make enough friends that I would be supported by the community as an important aspect of culture, meaning and friendship. They would bring me gifts and feed me when I was hungry so that they could have someone so great to come and talk to, and so CricketSoda could continue on and be great. The problem is, my friends all have jobs to pay their banking fees and feed themselves. The eight hours while they are at work can be very long, and I can get very hungry.

I even try making friends that work at fast food, but no matter how you look at it, you still end up hungry if you can’t provide for yourself. Plus, that just sounds really bad on your part. Inflated ego and using your friends equals suicide in some mental health journals.

Contact you bank today and tell them that you are really tired of the overdraft fees. Shouldn’t you have to overdraw more than a few dollars before they fine a person? Or why not fine a person based on how much they overdraft. Give us a short loan and charge us for the loan, not some huge fee over and over again that we can’t afford to pay back. If we all call the bank and let them know that this is an issue, and they will lose customers to banks that find a way to deal with this issue, they will have no choice but to change their unfair policies.
