Arbor Days Are Here By: Levi Blackman : It is a wonderful day outside, clear skies and a perfect temperature for celebrating Arbor Day. Go outside and plant a tree, breath in the fresh air provided by our plant friends, and enjoy nature.
Look around town and I am sure you can find an Arbor Day Festival; they have them all over the place. Most of them will even give you a free tree to plant in your yard. You could even plant one in the neighbor’s yard, but be careful, some people hate trees. (Has something to do with the leaves.) The origin of Arbor Day, according to the The National Arbor Day Foundation can be traced back to Nebraska. In January of 1872 a journalist named J. Sterling Morton proposed a tree planting holiday called Arbor Day. The date was set for April 10, 1872, and prizes were awarded to those who planted the most trees. You can read more about the history of Arbor Day at http://www.arborday.org/arborday/history.cfm. My friends and I are going to see The Doobie Brothers and The Grass Roots at the 17th Annual Arbor Daze in Euless, Texas. If you live in the area you should come and look for a big group of poor un-kept college kids. That would be us. More info about Arbor Daze at http://www.kluv.com.
Happy Arbor Day to everyone, and more important,
happy Arbor Day to the trees!
