When I first heard about it I didn’t really think much about it because it seemed like a far fetched idea, and that people were just trying to spread paranoid propaganda about the ending of the world. After a while, and even more so recently, I have been hearing it on a daily basis, and I feel like some truth exists behind it, especially after The New Yorker, and many other creditable news sources have pointed it out as a problem.

What could happen in the near future is that large telecom companies that control a good portion of the infrastructure of the internet will give websites that pay a premium in order to get good connections between their website and their customers. Those who don’t pay will be put in the slow lane. The Network Neutrally that exists today that allows anyone to start a website with money or not, and become successful, will be gone.
It will create a system that will work much like the grocery store. In order to get your product featured in a good spot, you have to pay the owner of the store for that space. Of course grocery stores do a great job of feeding our people, but do you feel it would be possible for your food product to ever end up on the selves, competing with big corporations that can pay any amount to get the step up over you.
So I am asking the viewers of CricketSoda, for the sake of saving CricketSoda in the future if this does turn out to be a big threat to our existence. We want to be able to come to you just like everyone else can. Right now you can download our site just as fast as Wal-Mart, and we think it should stay that way.
First, you should educate yourself about the situation and decide what should be done. The New Yorker has an article here that I though was pretty interesting.
You can also sign this petition that will go to congress. These things usually don’t mean anything unless a lot of people sign it and make a big splash. Call you local media and let them know what you think. With enough calls they will be forced to cover the issue because of the demand.
I can’t see the internet becoming a more closed controlled medium because I don’t think people want less out of the internet. People will stand up and fight against this type of thing for the betterment of their internet experience. They are already demanding more and more everyday, but stuff like this worries me, and I would hate to see my future go down the drain so that the corporations can continue to control my life.
So voice up, and fuck the fucking fuckers.
