Thankful for Thanksgiving : There Isn’t Room Here for the Two of Us

I wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving this year. Recently, times have been a little hard and I don’t get to eat as much as I should, and I am looking forward to eating as much as I possibly can without getting sick. I feel like it is wrong though if you do all this thanking and don’t even realize what you are truly being thankful for.

Thanksgiving celebrates the fact that we took all the Indians wealth, and have a great land to live on and visit our families. Everything we eat comes from land stolen from them long ago, and we cheer and cheer, eating and eating, a celebration of our culture and races superiority over the native peoples. We celebrate the fact that we invaded their land, and that it didn’t happen the other way around.

This Thanksgiving, I am going to be honest about what we are celebrating. I am going to be thankful that I now have a place to live, a small block of land to call my own. I am going to be thankful that the Indian people are peaceful, and that I can have them as friends now, even after all the shit we put them though.

Stop pretending that this holiday is something special, that brings everyone so close together because they are thankful for them being in their lives. This day doesn’t bring anywhere close to anyone the appreciation for life a near death train collision will.

Don’t think that your family loves you because they all come on Thanksgiving. Its all about Turkey, that is why you spend so much damn time cooking the thing every year. People don’t show up unless you have turkey. If your family loves you, they will come on any day that seems right, no matter if dinner is a feast or a cold sandwich.

I have one friend that really does it right. He throws a big party the night of Thanksgiving and everyone gets completely trashed. They don’t give thanks for all the cool cars, houses, and turkey in their lives. They cheer the fact that if they had been the ones on Columbus’s boat, they would have done things a little differently, and thats what it should be all about.

So thank you for learning from your mistakes, and perhaps the next time we want to create a Thankful Holiday, we will work on the timing just right, and instead of celebrating the genocide of millions of Native Americans, we can give thanks for being good people.
