I am going to have to tip the pizza guy double from now on…
For a little while we had a few new friends that would come over to our house and play video games with us. We had a good time with laughter, food and all the things that make life great. One day they disappeared, and we heard it through the grapevine that they went broke and had to head back to their hometown to find work.
In the hotel room they were staying in, their other friend that lives in Denton found a Pizza bag, a receipt for two pizzas and a Mr. Pibb. Their hotel room was located on the 1100 block of Avenue B.
A few days after they left I was reading the Denton Record Chronicle online. They have a section for police blotter reports that just state the most important police reports. I found the following:
Three men accosted a pizza deliveryman early Wednesday and took two pizzas and a bottle of Mr. Pibb.
The deliveryman reported that shortly after midnight he was sent to deliver the food to an address in the 1100 block of Avenue B but he could not find such an apartment number. A man stepped around a corner and said “Psst, over here,” he told police, and he followed the man around the corner.
Two other men were waiting, and the three crowded him and grabbed the food. One of the men swung at him, the victim said, but he was able to largely avoid the blow. He fled.
Arriving officers found the soda bottle in the grass but no suspects.
The report stunned me. Is it possible that these guys, who hung out at our house so much and played video games and had a great time, were out mugging pizza guys? What would have happened if the police had come and found them here? I might be in trouble; guilt by association.
Now I know that that extra chain lock on the front door is for. You really do need it, you really do.
