Where is Your Spark?

by: Levi Blackman

Isle 4 next to the cheap DVD bargain bin

At this point, I don’t really know anymore. I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel or anything like that. I see a future, filled with good and bad, but no light. I want my light, I really need some type of guideline.

You know, ignorance is one of my biggest annoyances, but then again, I myself at times have been completely and utterly stupid. More than just ignorant, downright stupid. It is the strangest thing. People are stupid, and everyone thinks that somewhere upstairs they have some flick, a spark that makes them smart or special. I guess if you think you have a spark then you are thinking and therefore posses some intelligence and therefore do have a flick, a spark, even a small one, that makes everything work.

Honest to God truth though, nobody has that spark. The spark it really something our minds created to make us keep going. An illusion the brain creates to trick the body into thinking that it has a purpose.

Really the mind knows nothing about purpose, but don’t tell anyone, it is a secret.

My mind plays tricks on me all the time, just to make sure I move at some point, go out and live life so I learn and maybe someday catch my own spark. Just the other day I was sitting doing nothing and happy about it, when the need arose to go to the store and get drinks. I wasn’t really physically thirsty was I? I don’t know, my mind doesn’t want to remember. I am being censored.

Anyways, my good friend Brandon and I headed to the store, and to the ATM to get a little cash. Parked right in front of the ATM is an older lady in one of those scooter carts they have at the store. We barley noticed her in our hurry, but as we finished up our automatic transaction she asked us,

“You fellows wouldn’t be movie buffs would ya?”

Well it just turns out nice old lady that you found two guys that love to talk! Sure we are movie buffs!

“Is this Denzel Washington’s new movie?”

It wasn’t his new movie. It was some older one he must have done early 2000’s late 1990’s. Never saw it because of the hokey explosions on the front cover. Sorry lady, wish we could help.

We spent the next 30 minutes chatting with this lady who impressed us with her kind nature and knowledge of movies. Society makes it seem like all older people have problems with their minds and end up forgetting everything down to their names, but this lady was sharp as a tack.

We tried to remember the guy who was in the one movie, what was it, Nurse Betty, and that other movie, ummm, Morgan Freeman! That’s his name! Only when we were at the store we couldn’t think of it. We tried really hard, and it drove us crazy until we got home and could ask what his name was. Morgan Freeman! Man, we knew that.

Even though we looked strung out, poor, and 20, she treated us like people. Like fine young gentlemen that deserved the royal treatment. We tried our best to return the good feelings she was giving us, but I feel like we failed. She was the sweetest lady, and it is people like this that make me have faith in humanity. We left the store that day and I felt a new sense of hope, a refreshing splash of the good in people. I felt like the world have greatness again, and the weather seemed extra nice that day.

Play all the tricks you want brain, you can’t deny the point in living when you meet the old lady from the store.
